As of Koha version 24.05, this system preference also applies when adding a guarantor to an existing guarantee. In previous versions, it only applies when adding a new guarantee using the 'Add guarantee' button in the guarantor's file.

The length can be a single number to specify an exact length, a range separated by a comma (i.e., 'Min,Max'), or a maximum with no minimum (i.e., '^,Max'). If 'cardnumber' is included in the :ref:`BorrowerMandatoryField <BorrowerMandatoryField-label>` list, the minimum length, if not specified here, defaults to one.

Only drivers available as Perl modules will work in this preference, so make sure a Perl module is available before choosing an SMS service.
