After clicking the 'Confirm hold' button, the patron will be brought to their :ref:`account page <your-summary-label>` where they'll see all of the items they have on hold.

Depending on the :ref:`circulation rules <circulation-and-fines-rules-label>` regarding item-specific holds, the patron will be allowed to choose whether to place the hold on the next available item or a specific item.

Hold notes: if the :ref:`OpacHoldNotes <opacholdnotes-label>` system preference is enabled, patrons will be able to leave notes about their holds for the library.

Request specific item group: if the :ref:`EnableItemGroupHolds <enableitemgroupholds-label>` system preference is set to 'Enable' and the record has :ref:`item groups <item-groups-label>`, the patron can choose to place a hold on the next available item of a group, rather than the next available item on the whole record or a specific item.

Request specific item type: if the :ref:`AllowHoldItemTypeSelection <allowholditemtypeselection-label>` system preference is set to 'Allow', this option will be displayed for the patron to choose to limit the hold to a specific item type.

Expired holds are removed by the :ref:`cancel\_expired\_holds.pl cronjob <cron-expired-holds-label>`. This is not an automatic process and must be set up by the system administrator.
